Hi and welcome to my podcast Deconstructing the Food System. Today's episode has a special guest calling in from California, Professor Julie Guthman from UC Santa Cruz who recently published a book called “The Problem with Solutions”. This is Professor Guthman’s fourth and last book since she is retiring however this book may be her best. The Problem with Solutions aims to expose the problems behind the agro-tech solutions in Silicon Valley specifically the inability to critically understand the so-called problem in the first place. Throughout this episode, Professor Guthman and I deconstruct the solution-oriented mindset and the role knowledge plays in facilitating or not facilitating the problems with solutions.
